This sculpture depicts the beautiful figure of a young girl with a dreamy look, seated on a bench, holding a closed book. The neck and hands are made of ivory, while the bronze dress is painted in different colours: the bodice in black and the headdress and wide skirt in gold. The details are very refined: the necklace with the crucifix, for example, and the ornamentation of the dress. Chiparus’ signature can be seen on the black marble bench.
