“Revolutions” from Jugendstil to Abstraction
Labirinto della Masone’s Autumn exhibition is dedicated to the iconic Dutch art magazine Wendingen. Innovative in its time, its publication coincided with a period of great transition for art and graphic design in Europe that saw the tradition of Jugendstil challenged by the emergence of both the Bauhaus in Weimar and De Stijl. The magazine’s colorful covers exhibited together with examples of architecture, graphic design and painting of the time bear witness to the complexity it captured. The work of several Italian artists, from Amedeo Bocchi to Galileo Chini, is also included, as are like-minded magazines that appeared in Italy in the ‘30s such as Casabella and Campo Grafico.
