The collection ranges from the great sculpture of the Seventeenth century to neoclassical sculpture. Busts of Napoleon are juxtaposed with examples of Vanitas still-lifes which feature skulls and are often of a macabre nature, some of them produced by famous artists, such as Ligozzi.
There are many works by Mannerists (Carracci, Cambiaso…) and artists linked to the golden age of the duchy of Parma (Boudard, Baldrighi, Ferrari…), as well as nineteenth-century paintings, amongst which works by Hayez stand out. From the Twentieth century, works by Wildt, Ligabue, and Savinio are combined with elegant pieces from the Art Deco period.
The layout is neither random – an approach typical of picture galleries – nor scientific, as in a museum, but rather follows connections between the various works, highlighting parallels between the choices of the publisher and those of the collector.
